Home prices have dropped 9.3 percent in Chicago over the past year, according to Standard & Poor’s Case-Shiller index. For home-owning Chicagoans, the news could have been worse: the index, which tracks home prices in 20 major U.S. cities, revealed a 17.8 percent year-over-year decline in home prices nationwide.
